That was a recent hit of mine. Ha-ha. I'll play you an old time song I wrote about fifty years ago, during my protest period. I'm still in that period. I suppose everybody else is, too. I know... I know some of you are. Anyway this one I wrote a while back. It still holds up, so I still sing it. It's called Masters Of War. after Masters of War Thank you. All right, I've been here before, so I know a lot of people know me, but right now I want to introduce you to one of America's last great Rock and Roll bands, certainly one of my favorite, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. before I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know Tom and I are gonna sing an old song for you that used to be on the radio (one time???). You don’t hear songs like that on the radio anymore, that's for sure. before Lenny Bruce This is a song I wrote a while back about a man who died before his time. Did a lot of things that a lot of people weren't too pleased with. And when they gave him a real rough time for doing it, and he behaved in a kind of a strange way, they just did away with it. But that was like twenty years ago. Now today people are doing just the same things he did only they're not doing it as good, but they’re making a lot of money doing it, they’re living in nice big houses, and they’re being very successful at it. So, sometimes you know you got to give credit where credit is due, so I wrote this song a while back specially for him. before Ballad of a Thin Man Thank you. I was singing a song a while back that I wrote. I was over in England one time doing a press conference. And that was the first time I ever gave a press conference where I didn't want to answer any of the questions. I didn't answer any of 'em. From that point on I stopped answering questions. People wanna know just all about your personal life you know, where I came from anyway. That’s very impolite. Anyway, I wrote this thing here. To try to have my say again, I don’t know if it ever reached anybody who's supposed to be reached, actually got hurt, but it made me feel better to write it. after Ballad of a Thin Man Thank you. All right, once again now, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers! before Seeing The Real You At Last Thank you. Domo, domo, domo, domo. Anyway, everybody must get stoned. You know that can be taken a couple of different ways. Quite a few of my songs can be taken quite a bunch of different ways really. At least two or three. Anyway, here's one, actually, the first for me, that can't be taken but more than one way. before I And I Thank you. Domo, domo, domo, domo. before Like A Rolling Stone Thank you. I wanna thank Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for backing me up tonight. On the keyboards, give him a warm hand, Benmont Tench. On the drums, please, Mr. Stan Lynch. On the bass guitar, Howie Epstein. Playing lead guitar tonight, Michael Campbell. And I especially want to thank Mr Tom Petty himself. [starts song] Oh, and my girl singers there, sorry about that, I sing, they go every place with me. You got to clap for them too. before In The Garden All right. Gotta get out of here now. Got to hit the road. Ha-ha. Don't know where we gonna go but ... it’s past my bedtime. All right, anyway I wanna sing a song about my hero. Everybody’s got their own special hero, where I come from we got, excuse me? ... anyway, all kinds of heroes where I come from, John Wayne, Clark Gable, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen. Anyway I don't care nothing about none of those people, I got my own hero. I wanna sing about my hero now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FINGERPRINTS: t01 [0:37] cough close to taper t04 [4:21] audience member woofs(!) 3 times (over opening chords of t05) t14 [3:58,4:08,4:20,4:23] cough/sneeze t15 [0:00] cough/sneeze t26 [4:06,4:57] cough -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FLAWS t01 [0:00-0:27] taper's noises (mounting the mics?) only 2s overlap with the opening riff on the ivories. t01 [~4:05] volume decrease t01 [2:59-3:01] mic bumps t02 [1:17, 1:37] mic bumps t03 [2:40-2:42, 3:06-3:07] mic bumps t04 [0:10-0:16] shuffling noises t09 [1:40] v. small glitch t09 [4:30] possibly cut? t10 [0:16, 0:37, 0:51] mic bump t10 [1:59-2:02, 5:24-5:29] taper's noises (covering the mics?) t12 [1:53-1:56, ~2:22, 6:11] mic bumps t13 [3:08] v. small glitch t14 [3:16] small glitch t14 [4:36] mic bump t15 [2:21-2:23] mic bump t16 [2:52] small glitch t16 [6:32] mic bump t17 [0:00-0:01] mic bumps t17 [2:57-2:58] buzz t17 [4:21] cut t18 [0:00] clipped at start due to tape change t18 [1:03-1:07] mic bump t18 [1:44] small glitch t19 [0:47,3:32] mic bump t19 [3:35-3:37] sound gets muffled t20 [0:08,0:17,0:38] mic bumps t21 [0:33,0:34] mic bumps t22 [1:48] mic bump t22 [2:45] some remnants after clipped peak phenomenon t23 [2:07] some remnants after clipped peak phenomenon t23 [2:38,2:48,5:24] small glitch t24 [3:47] d/o in left channel t25 [1:38] disturbance t25 [2:01] some remnants after clipped peak phenomenon t25 [3:28] small glitch t26 [0:57-0:59] distortion t26 [1:17-1:22] mic noises t26 [4:40-4:41,4:50] some remnants after clipped peak phenomenon t27 [0:21-0:28] mic noises t27 [1:55] small glitch t27 [8:29-8:30,9:33-9:41] mic bumps t28 [1:41-1:42] mic bump t30 [2:35] d/o in right channel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY INVOLVEMENT No remastering algorithms applied.
