BOB DYLAN Rock in Rio, Ciudad del Rock, Arganda del Rey, Madrid 6 july 2008 Since the Spanish TV were boasting that they were going to broadcast the whole Dylan concert, I prepared everything to record it. In the end, as everybody suspected, they did not get the OK to broadcast but one song, and only once the concert was over. I recorded this version of Just Like Tom thumb’s Blues from an optical fiber digital TV provider into the hard disc of a Panasonic DMR EX-77 DVD recorder in the best quality it provides (XP) because that is the only one with LPCM audio. Then, I copied it to a DVD and transferred it to my iMac. I put it together with the Franz Ferdinand concert that had followed Dylan’s and authored a VIDEO_TS. I asked permission to upgrade as uploader in HC, but, since at that time the Forums were not working well, nobody answered. So, some days later, I decided to upload it in another tracker. Then, someone uploaded a version to Dime (which has been re-uploaded to HC at least four times: by Chopen, jetpilot, madhasse and eddiethecat —in Place that “Pro” Shot) that was not sourced from mine, since it stated that it had been recorded from the (then analog) TV channel TVE2. The specifications of this analog version are: PAL - 4/3 - STEREO DVB-T Recording, not reencoded, authored with DVD Studio Pro Data Size: 179.36 MB Bit Rate: 3.76 Mbps MPEG-2, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps Audio: MP2 Stereo, 48 kHz, 192 kbps In a comment I sent some days ago to eddiethecat’s upload, Luisbp51 discovered that I had this digitally sourced version with LPCM sound and asked me to upload it. Since I do not think the Franz Ferdinand concert is interesting for the majority of us, I am uploading only Dylan’s song. As it is only one song, it does not deserve a DVD for itself, and I guess that most people would like to join it with others in a compilation DVD, so I am not authoring a DVD myself. I am uploading three files, so that everyone can choose whatever is convenient for him: 1. The original .VOB file as I extracted it from the DVD recorded in the standalone Panasonic: Video: mpg2 (yuv420p); 720x540 (4:3); 8182 Kbps; 25 fps. Audio: LPCM; 1536 Kbps; 48000 Khz; 16 bits, big endian. 447,5 Mb. 2. An uncompressed video file in format .DV (that will be easier to play or edit in the computer for those familiar to Macs, iTunes or iPods): Video: DV (yuv420p); 768x576 (4:3); 28850 Kbps; 25 fps. Audio: LPCM; 1536 Kbps; 48000 Khz; 16 bits, little endian. 1,34 Gb. 3. An audio file encoded in .flac with redbook specifications (1411/44100/16be//29,4 Mb). Lineage: optical fiber digital TV channel>Panasonic DMR EX-77 DVD recorder>DVD-R>iMac Intel Core 2 Duo (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS)>ffmpegX (for .DV file)>Quicktime 7.6.4 (for audio extraction)>xACT 1.59 (for .flac compression). I pray you to look for the artwork in the Chopen, jetpilot or madhasse uploads still alive here in HC, since I am very bad at that and what I could do might never compare favorably to what they have done. Some comments on the video: Most of the concerts of Rock in Rio broadcasted by the Spanish TV were filmed from cameras held by cranes and moving around the front of the stage. As you will see, that does not happen with Dylan’s video, which has been filmed from a camera installed on the stage and focused only in Dylan. The initial images suggest that it was the camera used to project images in the screens over the stage. In any case, it does not seem to be a very professional job, since the image is trembling all the time and it is obvious that the reason for that is the rumble of the bass line, transmitted first to the stage floor and then to the camera.
