sonic, & Paul Simon, Source: Sonic Studios DSM-6 => UGLY Pre-Amp => Sony DAT (not sure which model), Conversion: Tascam DA-20mkII DAT > Tascam DR-680, There are no fades applied to this recording; if you choose to burn to CD, the above splits are just a suggestion., Comments: A friend was kind enough to transfer this DAT for me recently, and after tracking it out I thought it might be worth sharing on Dime for those who are interested., Bob and Paul embarked on a nationwide U.S. tour in the summer of 1999 with the model the opener would perform a 80-minute(-ish) set, then the other artist would come out with the "opener's" band and play 3-4 songs with the opening band, and the "headliner" would then close with his own 80-minute set with his own band. They alternated headlining sets. On this particular night, Bob was the headliner, so Paul opened with 15 songs, brought out Bob for a few tracks, then Bob closed the show with his own band. I can't comment on the show because I wasn't there, but it seems to feature a typical setlist for both artists on the tour. The highlight, of course, is the transitional set where Bob and Paul were onstage together., In terms of the recording itself, the taper is/was a regular feature at this venue and had a pretty good sense of where he should be on the lawn to get the best line on the PA. The sound quality is pretty solid as a result. However, as is often the case with a recording done on the GA lawn, there is a great deal of low-level chatter by the less-interested audience members nearby. Unfortunately, it's just a function of sitting in the cheap seats that you get the least attentive neighbors near you. Overall this is a solid recording and I didn't spot any annoying audience interference that obscured the music, but you do have a steady amount of chatter in the quiet moments. I have never had a different source for this recording (although I'm sure there are some out there), so I don't know how this compares with the extant sources., Many thanks to the taper for making this available in the first place, and to my friend Tom for the transfer. Check out the samples in the comments if in doubt.
